I was born in New York City and have for many years lived a geographically double life, in Rochester, Vermont and Brooklyn, New York. Now that I am retired, I spend roughly equal portions of the year in each place. My migrations keep the landscape fresh for me. Country and city are each a visual shock when I arrive.
While I have never made my living solely from painting, I have, over the years, undertaken a lot of art education. I attended the High School of Music and Art, and first learned there to paint in oils. I took painting classes at the Columbia University School of the Arts, and studied painting at the Art Students League and, most recently, the School of Visual Arts, in New York City. Over the years I have participated in many art workshops. In workshops and classes, the artist/teachers who have influenced me most are Wolf Kahn and Peter Fiore.
In Brooklyn, my work has been on show at Colson Patisserie (9th Street in Park Slope) and will be seen at group shows of Park Slope/Windsor Terrace Arts. In Vermont, my paintings have been exhibited in various venues, including the Parade Gallery, Warren Vermont, the Waterfall Gallery, Middlebury Vermont, the Chandler Gallery, Randolph Vermont, and the Rochester Vermont public library and post office. Every summer I show and sell my work at the Chelsea Arts Fair in Chelsea Vermont, and the Harvest Fair in Rochester Vermont. I have painted works on commission (house portraits, street scenes) and I am open to further commissions.
